A mechanic from Kirkbymoorside, who turned his tools to art, has raised £800 for Ryedale Special Families from the sales of his Christmas cards. Rob Temple, 40, started drawing in October 2021 after borrowing some crayons from his friend’s 10-year-old daughter, Jessica Greetham. Before this Rob had not drawn since he was at school. Now, using the crayons to produce art is something he does daily.

“I just enjoy doing it,” said Rob.

His latest offering comes in the form of two Christmas card designs.The cards were sold at Cropton Garage, where Rob works as a mechanic - with proceeds going to Ryedale Special Families (RSF).

“I didn’t give customers their keys back until they bought them!” He joked.

Rob chose to support RSF following an appeal by Carrie Brackstone, whose daughter, Ruby, seven, is losing her sight.As reported by the Gazette and Herald, Carrie is urging anyone who would usually send a Christmas card to donate the money to RSF.The Malton-based charity supports families who have children and young adults with disabilities, illness and additional needs, throughout Ryedale.RSF now owns a piece of land in Pickering for a new purpose-built facility but needs to raise £1 million to begin the work.

Rob said he wanted to help the charity raise “as much money as possible” and offer the chance for people to donate and still receive a Christmas card.He added that the cards were well received, with people willing to contribute to the good cause.Looking to next Christmas, Rob aims to launch another Christmas card campaign raising money for charity.In the meantime, he says he will continue to draw and is even looking to scale back his work at the garage and start earning a living from art.

Rob added how he now uses his artwork to reflect his mood – with sharper drawings conveying his frustrations and softer pieces showing his joys.Something that has encouraged the artist to scale back on his day job is difficulties with his hand. As reported by the Gazette and Herald, Rob suffered nerve and tendon damage in his predominant left hand after following onto broken glass almost one year ago. Following the accident, Rob said he still struggles to feel with the hand – with just half of the feeling only now starting to return.

Thankfully he was able to adapt his drawing technique and continue with his, but he said the injury means he often faces difficulties when working at the garage.Rob, however, is determined not to let it stand in his way.

“There are people with a lot worse injuries,” he said.

A local mechanic will be exhibiting some new artwork . Rob Temple from Kirbymoorside has ditched his tools for crayons and produced artwork that will be on show this Sunday ( June 26th ) at the New Inn, Cropton from 2pm. Rob, a mechanic at Cropton Garage said "I thought I'll have a quick go and I've never stopped sonce" He described his work as "abstract" and is showcasing it to celebrate his 40th birthday. Rob said that . previously , he never had any interest in artwork. He likened his journey drawing with Forest Gump's journey to running. "I just started drawing" he joked. Drawing is now something Rob enjoys, explaining how he now looks forward to going home after work and returning to his art.

An art exhibition in Pickering attracted crowds to celebrate new work by a Kirbymoorside artists. The event was hosted by artists Rob Temple to showcase his latest work, which included drawings with a Halloween theme. As reports by the Gazette and Heralds , Robs works as a mechanic at Cropton Garage and started drawing last October after borrowing some crayons from his friends 10 year old daughter, Jessica Greetham. Since he started one year ago he has now produced 90 drawings which he creates using crayons, praising their ability to let him 'scribble'. Robs latest art show was held on October 30th and welcomed a crowd of around 100 people. "It went well" he said. "It was worthwhile" "Thank you to Phil and Jill of the Black Swan for allowing me to host the event at their swanky pub" Now Rob plans to continue to pursue his new found passion, and has already started on new work. "It's been a strange year" he said "I'm going to try to make something of it - the daft ideas keep flowing". Rob is currently working on a website to showcase his work.

As reports by Gazette and Herald , Rob started drawing after borrowing some crayons from his friends 10 year old daughter, Jessica Greetham. He is now on track to finishing the year with 90 drawings - producing one drawing each week. The drawings have become known for their bright and abstract idea's.

Mechanic from Kirbymoorside has found his new passion. Rob Temple, 39, is a mechanic at Cropton Garage and when he's not fixing cars he can be found producing all kinds of drawings. Rob started drawing in October 2021 after borrowing some crayons from his friends 10 year old daughter , Jessica Greetham. "I might not have started if it she didn't have the crayons, I hadn't thought about it" he said. Ron and Jessica worked together on the initial drawings, producing three together. Since the his early work with Jessica , Rob has now completeed 59 artworks. The drawings have been well recieved and even caught the attentoin of local artist Kezy Feaster and Phil Morgan. Some of the artwork will be on display this Sunday ( June 226th ) at New Inn, Cropton from 2pm to celebrate his 40th birthday.
